The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) is launching a new body focused on advancing digital technology in the built environment
The Digital Technology Council will replace the Building Information Management Council.
It will have a wider focus to reflect the rapid expansion of digital technology in the built environment, NIBS said.
The Digital Technology Council’s leadership team includes:
- Rachel Riopel, digital practice leader at HDR.
- Alex Belkofer, senior VDC director, virtual design and construction at McCarthy Building Companies.
- Zahra Ghorbani, BIM manager at the Office of Physical Plant, Penn State University.
Stephen T Ayers, interim president and CEO of NIBS, said: “The Digital Technology Council aims to advance digital transformation through the delivery of consensus-based industry standards, research and though leadership.
“We are excited for this new chapter.”
Building Innovation 2024
The Digital Technology Council was announced ahead of the NIBS’ Building Innovation conference, which takes place 22-24 May in Washington DC.
The event will focus on three tracks: Resilience, Technology and Building Performance/Sustainability.
It will host the NIBS 50th Anniversary General Session, featuring the US Department of Housing & Urban Development, General Services Administration and Fannie Mae.
The conference will conclude with the Brains & Bytes BIMStorm.
This immersive AI sandbox allows participants to engage with real-world BIM, GIS, CMMS and digital twin data to collaborate on problem-solving across architecture, engineering and construction.
National BIM Standard – United States V4
The move to the Digital Technology Council comes after NIBS announced the hard launch of Version 4 of the National BIM Standard – United States last month.
The updated standard aims to address the challenges surrounding information management in a fragmented, networked industry by specifying standard data requirement specifications and structures for BIM uses and information exchange.
