The Smart Cities Council has announced a strategic partnership with GITEX Global, the world’s biggest tech and start-up show

The move follows the recent opening of the Smart Cities Council’s operations in the Middle East.

Taking place 14-18 October at the Dubai World Trade Center, GITEX Global will host more than 180,000 attendees.

The future of urban development

As part of the partnership, Smart Cities Council president Corey Gray will present a keynote address to the Digital Cities track, sharing insights on the future of urban development, smart infrastructure and the role of technology in creating more sustainable, efficient and liveable cities.

SCC members will also benefit from exclusive discounts on GITEX Global attendance, exhibition space and sponsorship.

The SCC said the partnership underscores the importance of its global reach and voice, as well as GITEX’s commitment to driving the smart cities agenda on a global scale.

GITEX Global

Now marking its 44th year, GITEX Global will take place across two venues – the Dubai World Trade Center and Dubai Harbor.

It offers more than 40 exhibition halls, showcasing tech firms and start-ups in fields including AI, cybersecurity, mobility and sustainable tech,

The conference encompasses eight co-located shows: GITEX Global, AI Everything, GITEX Impact, Global Devslam, Expand North Star, Fintech Surge, Future Blockchain Summit and Marketing Mania.

GITEX Editions

In line with Dubai’s ambition to be the home of 30 start-up unicorns by 2030, GITEX Global 2024 is launching GITEX Editions, designed to accelerate scale and global governance for high-growth companies.

Early confirmed speakers include eight fast-growing start-ups from eight countries; three backed by the European Innovation Council (EIC).

  • AI: Fabrizio del Maffeo, co-founder, CEO & board member, Axelera AI(Netherlands).

An expert in developing generative AI infrastructure and edge computing. Growing with a purpose of becoming the “European NVIDIA”, Axelera AI is backed by Samsung and the EIC. Valued at $500m, GITEX Global will mark its first ever Middle East presence.

  • Synthetic biotech: Dr Alexander Zhavoronkov, founder and CEO, InSilico Medicine (Hong Kong).

Leading the biotech company with the world’s fastest-ever IPO and currently valued at $1.5bn, he will discuss groundbreaking advancements in AI-driven drug discovery, synthetic biology and ageing.

  • Sustainability biotech: Dr Mazen Rizk, founder and CEO, Infinite Roots(Germany).

EU’s largest mycelium-biotech investment, building next-generation sustainable alternative proteins. A Series B funded company backed by the EIC.

  • Quantum deeptech: Dr Joseph Fitzsimons, founder and CEO, Horizon Quantum Computing (Singapore).

Singapore’s biggest Quantum start-up, backed by SG Innovate, Sequoia and Tencent.
