The world’s first smart construction safety helmet, which uses integrated sensor technology to automatically detect falls and impacts, has been launched
Developed by safety equipment company Guardio, part of Sweden’s Båstadgruppen, and connected safety technology specialist Quin, the Armet Pro can accurately measure motion and forces in three dimensions, 1,000 times per second, enabling it to detect falls and impacts, discern the likely consequences and automatically call for help if necessary.
It also uses the Mips brain protection system for construction safety helmets, developed over 25 years with the KTH Royal Institute of Technology and the Karolinska Institute.
Monitoring worker safety
The Armet Pro monitors the safety of the wearer and in the event of a fall, an object falling from height or any other type of impact, analyzes what has happened across a range of parameters to determine whether help is needed.
If the safety threshold is breached, via the wearer’s cell connection, the Quin system sends out an automatic alert to the registered contacts detailing the location and nature of the detected event.
The helmet can also track a worker’s timely return to a safe zone, sending out emergency alerts in the event the worker does not return as expected.
Improving construction safety through smart tech
The development of the Armet Pro was made possible by carefully conducted processes that combine scientific testing and close communication with end users.
In the development process of the current Armet helmet, Guardio gained invaluable insights from end users from the construction company Arcona, part of Veidekke, one of Scandinavia’s largest construction contractors.
“We are excited to be a part of the development process for the Armet PRO. Safety is a top priority for us, and collaborating with Guardio to test and evaluate the new helmet allows us to contribute valuable insights to ensure the highest level of safety and performance. We look forward to seeing how this product can enhance safety on our construction sites,” said Björn Nauclér, health safety manager at Arcona.
Guardio was the first brand to launch a construction safety helmet with Mips brain protection system, and now takes the innovation available within its range to the next level.
”It’s incredibly exciting to collaborate with our strategic partners, Mips, that provide technical solutions aiming to reduce the risk of brain injuries, and Quin, to create even better products that, again sets a new standard in our industry. Together, we are working towards our vision of zero fatalities in the construction and industrial sectors,” said Nawar Toma, category manager at Guardio.
The Armet PRO will be available in 2025.
