buildingSMART International has named the recipient list for its Fellows Programme and the Richard Petrie Awards at its international summit in Valencia, Spain.
The Fellows Programme recognises volunteers and professionals who have contributed to buildingSMART’s mission over many years of service and the advancement of openBIM.
Recipients are granted the honorary status of buildingSMART Fellows and are presented with a gold pin.
Fellows Programme
The Fellows Programme recipients:
- Lars Fredenlund, co-founder of Cobuilder.
- Sergio Munoz, co-founder and CEO of Laurentia Technologies.
- Greg Schleusner AIA, principal/director of design technology at HOK.
- Bjørn Stangeland. head of strategic partnerships, Nemetschek design division, Nemetschek Group.
- Lai Wei, secretary general of buildingSMART China.
- Angel Velex, distinguished engineer at Autodesk.
- Anna Moreno, president of buildingSMART Italy.
- Rob Roef, senior business developer, TNO
- Juha Hyvärinen, VTT Finland.
- Tarmo Savolainen, head of project management development, Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.
A posthumous Fellowship was also awarded to Professor Charles Eastman, often cited as the father of Building Information Modelling.
Richard Petrie Award
The Richard Petrie Award reflects the innovation and progress achieved by former buildingSMART International chief executive Richard Petrie during his time leading the organisation.
It is given to those that have made a significant contribution to “move the dial” and to provide leadership in developing open standards.
The recipients of the Richard Petrie Award were:
Mark Baldwin, co-head of digital construction at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences & Arts and managing director at Digital Insights. He led the development of buildingSMART’s international programme for professional certification in openBIM and also served as buildingSMART International liaison to the European Committee for Standardisation, CEN/TC 442 Building Information Modelling.
Thomas Liebich, founder and director of AEC3 Deutschland. A long-serving member of the bSI community and of bS Germany, he was co-developer of the IFC model and is the technical lynchpin of the buildingSMART software certification programme. He has led the Model Support Group since its inception.
