buildingSMART International (bSI) and the Digital Built Environment Institute (DBEI) have announced a strategic partnership to create a “unified approach” to supporting digital transformation, sustainability and innovation.

buildingSMART International is a vendor-neutral and not-for-profit body that leads the development of open standards that support digital information flows across the built asset industry.

DBEI is a global, member-run not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the advancement of people, processes and technology, and the improvement of productivity, efficiency and sustainable across the built environment and AECO industry.

The new partnership is based on a shared vision to streamline processes, improve interoperability and drive innovation.

The organisations will work together on initiatives including events, educational programmes and the development of new standards.

DBEI’s knowledge base and education resources will be integrated with bSI’s standardisation and certification processes. This will provide industry professionals with the tools and knowledge to navigate the complexities of the digital built environment.

Open standards and sustainable development

Announcing the partnership, bSI and DBEI said: “Both organisations are committed to the principles of open standards and sustainable development.

“This collaboration will further enhance their ability to advocate for these principles, promoting a culture of openness and collaboration that is essential for the long-term success of the industry.”

buildingSMART also partners with other international standards bodies such as ISO, the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).
