buildingSMART International and Women in BIM have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on advancing digital innovation and inclusion in the built environment
The strategic partnership will drive the adoption and application of buildingSMART’s open digital standards while fostering greater diversity and engagement in the industry.
buildingSMART International (bSI) is a vendor-neutral, not-for-profit body that works with industry stakeholders to develop open standards for the design, procurement, construction and operation of buildings and infrastructure worldwide.
Women in BIM (WIB) is a not-for-profit global community focused on ensuring women working in Building Information Modeling and digital-related roles have a strong voice, and that the industry as a whole benefits from a diverse workforce to support digital innovation and sustain growth.
By working together, bSI and WIB will support the execution of key initiatives to improve digital adoption, interoperability and inclusivity within the built environment.
Fostering diversity and collaboration in digital innovation
Both organizations will commit resources, expertise, and leadership to support the success of this partnership.
The agreement outlines a shared vision for enhancing open digital workflows, harmonized schema validation, and standardized taxonomies that align with bSI’s mission to enable an open, interoperable and sustainable built environment.
“This new partner with Women in BIM will enable us to further drive meaningful change across the built environment,” said Aidan Mercer, marketing director at buildingSMART International.
“This MoU reflects our commitment to fostering innovation, diversity and collaboration in the digital transformation of the industry, and it is an honour to be collaborating with this global network of digital pioneers and change-makers.”
Rebecca De Cicco, founder and global chair of Women in BIM, added: “At Women in BIM, our work supports the professional and personal development of women in BIM and digital-related roles to upskill, expand their knowledge and advance their careers.
“We know that the industry is constantly evolving, which is why this partnership with buildingSMART International will bring new opportunities to our members and greater cross industry collaboration.
“buildingSMART International’s approach to diversity and inclusion directly aligns with our own and there are exciting times ahead as we start to work more closely together.”
