The European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC) is to set out a manifesto for the future of sustainable construction in Europe over the next five years at the European Parliament on 17 April.
The FIEC Construction Manifesto for Action, titled Building a Resilient and Sustainable Europe Together, has been jointly developed with the European International Contractors (EIC).
The launch event will set out 10 key messages to deliver FIEC’s vision for a sustainable construction sector in Europe. There will also be a discussion about the impact of construction policies, an overview of the main challenges and achievements for the sector and construction-related issues at a European level, on the current EU mandate, as well as the next political agenda.
The event comes ahead of European Parliament elections on 6-9 June.
Construction at the heart of a sustainable society
The 10 key messages include:

- Price adjustment mechanisms.
- Investing in infrastructure for competitiveness, safety and the environment.
- Construction at the core of the transition to a sustainable society.
- Ensure an adequate implementation of the EU taxonomy for sustainable activities.
- Building the climate-resilient cities of tomorrow.
- Tackle the labour shortages and skills gap.
- Ensure fair working conditions.
- Strengthening a culture of prevention for a healthy and safe working environment.

The manifesto is available in 10 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Slovakian, Greek, Romanian and Finnish.
