Digital Construction Today is live at the Bentley Systems Year in Infrastructure 2024 in Vancouver, Canada. Follow along for our coverage of the keynote speeches

First, here’s a look at YII2024 Day 1 highlights:

Bentley Systems CEO Nicholas Cumins takes to the stage.

We are on the cusp of a paradigm shift – Artificial Intelligence, he says. AI can help to plan maintenance and prevent problems before they arise but it also has a huge role in design.

But the true value will be measured in how it affects outcomes. As we look to the future, the possibilities seem endless.

Infrastructure is facing unprecedented challenges, demand is surging. This will require trillions of dollars of investment.

However, the shortage of skilled engineered mean the gap between demand and what can be delivered keeps growing.

No shortage of data, shortage of insight

Huge amounts of data is being generated but, at most, maybe 10% is being used to create actionable insights.

To harness the power of AI, we must get control of data.

The true power of asset analytics comes to live when integrated into a digital twin.

A digital twin represents a digital thread to provide the full context needed to make decisions.

With the acquisition of Cesium, Bentley is integrating 3D geospatial views with engineering information to create stunning user experiences, from deep below ground to outer space.

Open standards and open data ecosystems

Openness is vital given the long lifecycle of infrastructure assets.

During this time, the software and platforms used will evolve.

But openness isn’t just about software, it’s about ensuring data can be interrogated and analyzed across different platforms.

Openness will drive infrastructure forward.

New partnership with Google

Cumins announces a new strategic partnership with Google.

By integrating Google’s geospatial data with Bentley’s digital engineering expertise, users will be able to view their assets – existing and planned – in full real world setting, he says.

This partnership reflects the fact that no single vendor can address the challenges infrastructure faces.

The future of infrastructure engineering is open, it’s creative and built on a foundation of data that you can share securely.

As we look forward to the next 40 years, the challenges we face are immense.

The key to moving forward is to unlock the value of data.

Let’s use AI – our generation’s paradigm shift – to unlock the future of infrastructure.
