Women in BIM has held its first networking event in Thailand, Accelerating Diversity in Thailand’s Construction Industry.

The event, sponsored by Aurecon Group, marked a significant milestone in empowering and promoting women professionals in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry, the organisation said.

Held on 7 March, in the same week as International Women’s Day, the event served as a platform to formally introduce Women in BIM to a Thai audience.

Attendees included contractors, developers, construction managers, designers and representatives of various institutions.

It featured a panel discussion and networking session, with guest speakers Kesinee Wattanaweerachai, Nattakrittamuk Klomklao and Kanokwan Ruangpin sharing their experiences of entering the BIM and digital construction industry, emphasising the importance of hard work, dedication and perseverance as the driving forces behind their success.

The panel also discussed how they have leveraged diversity to drive innovation, highlighting the importance of effective communication to enhance the individual potential of team members.

Mentor Scheme

The event also promoted the Women in BIM Mentor Scheme. Now in its fifth year, the scheme supports WIB members and digital construction professionals across the built environment by matching mentors and mentees to share knowledge, develop skills and build confidence. In 2023, there were over 300 matches.

Women in BIM said the success of the event serves as a “promising start for Women in BIM in Thailand, setting the stage for the growth and development of a vibrant community of women professionals in the AEC industry.

“We look forward to the continued growth and empowerment of Women in BIM, driving positive change and innovation in the construction sector.”

Women in BIM was established in 2012 by Rebecca De Cicco a dedicated network for women working in Building Information Modelling and digital construction to share skills, knowledge, insight and best practice.

It now has almost 2,000 members and 60 regional leads across 50 countries.
